Boomer Retirement

Our baby boomers retirement plan was to invest our money into a 401 plan through our jobs. We figured by the time that we retired our investments would be well over 2 million dollars. Well our retirement plan never figured on job losses, investments diving and the housing market bust. Needless to say we are still going ahead with our boomer retirement plans only we are scaling back on having a second home and traveling abroad. We are going to be downsizing our retirement plans but not giving them up all together.

We still figure that we can have a healthy boomer retirement only with a more scaled back model. Instead of traveling abroad we will be traveling more state side and possibly touring Mexico and Canada. We were lucky enough to salvage enough of our retirement benefits to be able to invest in a time share and we were lucky enough to get a great deal on a motor home. We will still be able to travel the nomad lifestyle that we wanted only closer to home and our tin tepee on wheels will be our four star hotel.

We originally had planned on selling our home and getting a condo as our permanent dwelling but with the current housing market we have decided against letting go of our home and loose a massive amount of money. Our house is setup such as to be able to shut down parts of the house so we only have to live in half of it. Plus if needed we have plenty of room to be able to help our kids and their families if they find they are unable to keep their homes. This would be a win win situation for us as we would know the house is being taken care of by family and not strangers while we are on the road traveling. I am not hoping that any of our children find themselves in this position we would just like to keep this option open for now.

Part of our baby boomer retirement will be making money with possibly some type of portable home business. We would like to be able to earn an income perhaps online. This is partially why I am starting out on HubPages now before to test the waters to see if my husband and myself could possibly earn passive income online with the hopes that we will not have to dip into our investments to live on. This would be a real blessing. If we could make money online we could then work our online business while we are at home and travel. We have read so often how people are making a living online so we though why not try it out now before we retire. Our retirement investments could then sit and grow.  Plus an added bonus would be that we could retire within the next couple of years.

As I mentioned in the previous module we will be trying to find a way to earn income with a retirement jobs to help with our retirement. As typical baby boomers we like to spend money and live in the moment in style. That is why we are looking for boomer retirement jobs. We have seen too many of our friends retire and all of the sudden something happened to their investments and they were forced to find employment in the workforce at about 1/4 of what they were making before they retired.

We have a few boomer friends that lost everything when the stock market crashed  and were left financially bankrupted at an age when money should have never been a worry. We are hoping to avoid such an occurrence happen by laying out a retirement plan that cushions against financial ruin. We have been very fortunate so far in handling our investments and was able to sidestep the stock market bust a little over a year ago. It is devastating to see people of our age have to start all over with no hopes of recovery. This is why finding retirement jobs or a home business we can build within the next couple of years that we can run after retirement. And it is important that these jobs be very flexible as far as being able to run remotely.

As was stated earlier we are looking for boomer retirement jobs that make a substantial amount of money either online or off line that we can operate and still have a nomad lifestyle. I will be reporting what we are trying and what seems to be working for us. We are also looking for recommendations if anyone has any. But for now this is our current retirement plan to save our investments and find retirement jobs for boomers.

As with many people the baby boomers retirement savings has dwindled considerably. My husband and I have not escaped the retirement savings implosion. Even though we have been way more fortunate than most boomers who have lost most or all their retirement savings we lost enough to change how we are looking at our retirement plans.

Baby boomer retirement savings that have been lost will more than likely never be replaced. Many boomers do not have enough years left in the workforce to be able to recoup what was lost in their 401K investments. So many of us will be looking for retirement jobs to supplement any retirement income we may have.

As for my husband and myself, we are not looking for supplemental income but almost full time income so our investment savings can be left for emergencies. Neither one of us has anything like a pension or any other type of retirement benefits. We will need to cover our health care and all expenses that daily occur. Once we are able to sell our home, we will be investing that money as well into our investments. Whatever we make after retirement will go into our baby boomers retirement savings to live on.
