Make Money Online at Home with Hubpages 60 Day Challenge Log

By Boomer60

Why I am doing the 60 day HubPages Challenge

I decided to do the 60 Day HubPage Challenge implemented by sunforged to see if I can learn how to make money online at home with HubPages. I have only been on HubPages doe about 6 weeks and have read a lot how so many people are making money online here with their hubs. As I will be retiring soon, I have been looking for ways to supplement my retirement income. I never considered that I could make a full time income just by using HubPages alone. But what I have been reading from other Hubbers, HubPages is a way to make money at home by writing content here.

I know making money online at home through this 60 day Hub Challenge is a stretch, but I figured maybe, just maybe, I may learn a thing or two and come out of it knowing how to make money online at home.I have a lot to learn as most of the lingo is foreign to me. If I don't take a leap of faith I will never know.

Who knows maybe I just might meet some really cool people while i am working on this challenge and be the biggest winner here.

April 4th - First Day of the Challenge

I am not sure if this hublog is considered a part of the 30 hubs we are supposed to make but this is Easter Sunday and I may not get much more done than this. I still have to figure out what exactly my 6 or so main topics are going to be. Not sure if we are supposed to declare them or not. I have never done anything like this so I feel a little lost. I guess I will find out if I am doing this wrong or not.

Since I am trying to learn how to make money online at home I am sure that I will be writing hubs on different ways to make money at home. This would really help out in my retirement years. Being able to travel and make money on the road would be awesome. It is almost to good to seem believable. We will see. Follow along on my journey with this Hub Challenge and see what I have to report. Hope it is all good!

Now I must go and find out more about what I am supposed to be doing. Wish me luck on making money online at HubPages.

HubPages Stats at Beginning

Week 1 of 60 Day Challenge

What was I thinking joining this 60 day challenge? Not only am I feeling way out my league doing this, but this is spring break week. I have grand-kids morning noon and night this week. It is my anniversary this week, my daughter anniversary this week and my grandson's birthday party this week. Whoa!!! Talk about feeling overwhelmed.

I am supposed to be writing a hub a day this month and as of right now (4/7/10) I only have two new ones. How am I ever going to pull this off? I see that other people are using existing hubs. I may have to resort to doing that also. As it is today, I only have 10 hubs combined since I started on HubPages. Guess I will have to find out if that is acceptable with the 60 day challenge.

My first two hubs for the challenge is in the home improvement category. Since we have a house that is over 160 years old, we do have a lot of home improvements constantly.

Hub 1 - Mold Removal: How to Get Rid of Mold

http://hubpages.com/hub/Mold-Removal-How-to-Get-Rid-of-Mold

Topics: Home & Family - Home Improvement

is focusing on the mold issues we have in our home and the things we have had and continue to have removing mold and black mold in our house.I also pointed a link from this hub to my second hub. Not sure if I am linking right but I guess someone will inform me if I am wrong. Hopefully! This mold removal hub it appears is going to have a lot of out going links to each supporting hub in this series on mold removal.

Hub 2 - Basement Mold Removal: Basement Mold

http://hubpages.com/hub/Basement-Mold-Removal-Basement-Mold

Topics: Home & Family - Home Improvement

Basement mold is probably the most common place in the home to find mold with the bathroom running a close second. Basement mold removal in some instances can become an easy fix while at other times it could require a professional and a lot of money.

is an extension of my first hub. I will be pointing a link from this hub to my Mold Removal hub.

As of yet I have not done any promotions on these two hubs. Not exactly sure how I am supposed to do this. According to the 60 day challenge I will be learning that next month. So for now I will just be putting up my 30 hubs and see what happens. I did manage to get Google Analytics in place on my account and now I will be able to see what exactly is happening. Thanks everyone for your great hubs on this topic as I would not have had a clue other wise.

Hub 3 - Zippo Lighter

http://hubpages.com/hub/Zippo-Lighter

Topics: Knowledge & Education - History & Archeology - Twentieth Century - 1930s

The Zippo Lighter is about as American as apple pie. The first Zippo Lighter was produced in 1933 in Bradford, Pennsylvania by George G. Blaisdell. The first Zippo was sold for $1.95. WW2 came along and was instrumental in making the Zippo Lighter an American icon throughout the world.

is a hub I published a little bit ago. I thought I would expand upon this hub eventually but I guess now is as good a time as any. The Zippo Lighter hub is more of an educational hub. My husband an I have been collecting these lighters for years.

Hub 4 - Zippo Lighters for Sale

http://hubpages.com/hub/zippo-lighters-for-sale

Topics: Games, Toys, & Hobbies - Collecting

is beginning the journey of buying Zippo Lighters for sale for other collectors or beginner collectors. I put this in the collectors category. Millions of people are looking for Zippo Lighters for sale. Zippo Lighters are some of the most sought after collectibles in the world. Finding collectible Zippo Lighters requires one to be an expert on Zippo Lighters.

As of now I am only 4 hubs behind schedule. :-(I am definitely planning on stepping this up after spring break to meet the 30 hubs in thirty days schedule. Hope I make it!

Week 2 of 60 Day HubPage Challenge

Finally the end of spring break around here. Today April 11, 2010 I have the day off and plan on adding more hubs to my 60 Day Challenge. My objective for this week is to stay more focused on adding hubs. My first week, I spent a lot of time reading other peoples 60dc-logs and getting to know a little about each person in the challenge. I have tried to add a comment on everyone's 60dc-logs but I know I have missed a few. Sorry to those that I have missed. I will try to get to you soon.

The end of week one I also added a Twitter account: babyboomer59

I also joined twitterfeed.com and added my feedburner feed for the latest hubs.

This week I will be getting more 60dc hubs up even though they may not be complete. I can always go back and add more content later, but I think it is important to at least get the hubs up and try to get them indexed.

I am a little confused on the linking process on my hubs. I link to my supporting hubs from my main hub with my main keyword that I am trying to give link juice to. But on my supporting hubs I am not sure if I am supposed to link back to my main hub with the top keyword that I have for my main hub or should I be using the keyword that I have for my supporting hub? Maybe someone will chime in and help me understand this or point me to a source that explains it.

Hub 5 - Alcohol Abuse - One Woman's Story

http://hubpages.com/hub/Alcohol-Abuse-One-Womans-Story

Topic: Health - Diseases & Conditions

Part of my alcohol abuse treatment is to, own my life. As a woman, a teenager, a mother, and a grandmother the shame of being an alcoholic woman still prevails. As I go through my alcohol addiction, I will be detailing my alcohol rehab and alcohol treatment centers along with my families struggles with me and the effect my alcoholism has had on my children.

Hub 6 - Alcohol Intervention: My Alcoholic Intervention

http://hubpages.com/hub/Alcohol-Intervention-My-Alcoholic-Intervention

Topic: Health - Diseases & Conditions

My alcoholic intervention came when my husband had had enough of the insanity that the alcohol abuse had brought to him and the family. An alcoholism intervention is usually preformed by family members and a qualified counselor.

Hub 7 - Alcohol Treatment: My Alcohol Treatment Centers

http://hubpages.com/hub/Alcohol-Treatment-My-Alcohol-Treatment-Centers

Topic: Health - Diseases & Conditions

My alcohol treatment was a little bit different as I went through my alcohol treatment centers in the early 80s when alcohol treatment centers were springing up like wild fire. Insurance companies were just being to cover alcohol treatment programs and 28 day inpatient alcohol treatment centers.

Thanks to Betty Ford, alcohol abuse was receiving national attention and women were finally getting the help that they needed.

I was running out of time to finish this today, but I did want to get it published.

Hub 8 - Alcohol Rehab: My Alcohol Rehabilitation

http://hubpages.com/hub/Alcohol-Rehab-My-Alcohol-Rehabilitation

Topic: Health - Diseases & Conditions

Most of my alcohol rehab was handled in inpatient alcohol rehab centers during the beginning of my sobriety. Alcohol rehabilitation centers were plentiful in the 80s. I was fortunate to have long term alcohol rehab.

This hub will also have to be updated and more information added as time allows.

I took care of my 2 year old grandson for the first part of the weekend. So that meant no hubs were added.

Between working and my family, I am really struggling to find the time to average a hub a day. I do not know how other people are doing it. I only average 6 hours of sleep a day as it is.

Week 3 of the 60 Day Challenge

Today starts the 3rd week of the 60 day challenge here at HubPages. I am definitely way behind. I never thought this was going to be this hard to get 30 hubs up within the first thirty days. I only have 8 hubs done in the first two weeks and now I really need to find a way to get hubs out faster.

I signed up for RedGage at the end of last week and I find myself spending way too much time over there getting friends and uploading material. I really need to focus more here at HubPages and worry about promoting later.

I did get another hub up today and hopefully will have time to do one more.

Hub 9 - Retirement Income: Retirement Income Planning

http://hubpages.com/hub/Retirement-Income-Retirement-Income-Planning

Topic: Personal Finance → Retirement → Planning

A big part of our retirement income planning is to find retirement income that both my husband and I can do while enjoying our retirement. My objective to writing hubs here at HubPages is to see if it is possible to make retirement income.

Hub 10 - Engraved Zippo Lighters

http://hubpages.com/hub/engraved-zippo-lighters

Topic: Holidays & Celebrations → Gifts & Gift Giving

Engraved Zippo Lighters has been one of my favorite gift giving ideas. So far it has been a huge hit when I need retirement gift ideas for men. Zippo lighters engraving can be done on almost any Zippo Lighter. All I need to do is find a place to get Zippo Lighters for sale and take them to an engraver and have something personal put on it.

Hub 11 - Junior Golf Bags

http://hubpages.com/hub/Junior-Golf-Bags

Topic:Sports & Recreation - Sports - Golf

Now that spring has sprung our family turns to golf. I have two grandsons who will be starting golfing with us this year so I need 2 junior golf bags. The other kids golf bags look like they have gone through a war. Looking into some of the golf bags for juniors they can be a little pricey, but if we buy to cheap of a bag it will never hold up and we will have to get more golf bags for children.

Man.....Some people already have their 30 hubs done and I am just publishing my 11th hub! :-(

Hub 12 - Hydroponic Gardens

http://hubpages.com/hub/Hydroponic-Gardens

Topic: Home & Family - Gardening - Organic Gardening

Hydroponic gardens have been used by many for growing indoor plants using only water as a means of growing healthy organic plants in a crowded space without soil. General hydroponics gardening produce a higher yield of plants that are healthier.  Hydroponic gardening has gained in popularity since so many states have now approved the use of medical marijuana.

Week 4 of the 60 Day Challenge

Well this is week 4 of the 60dc and like always I am way behind. I was able to make some headway yesterday but now panic is setting in and I am not sure I am going to be able to get the 30 hubs done by Friday.

What was I thinking taking this challenge after only just starting out here? J/K! I have met some pretty cool people that are taking this challenge and some that are not. This was my goal after all to meet new people and find out how to make retirement income.

I really need to bust out a bunch of hubs today! Hopefully I will not be sacrificing quality for quantity.

Hub 19 - Retirement Income Streams

http://hubpages.com/hub/Retirement-Income-Streams

Topics: Personal Finance - Retirement - Planning

As we prepare to do our retirement income planning, the retirement plan will include multiple retirement income streams. We already have our 401K, our Social Security, and other streams of income coming in from property and investments. It sounds like a lot of retirement income, but trust me we are not Donald Trump rich!

Hub 20 - Alternative Natural Remedy for Hiatal Hernia

http://hubpages.com/hub/Alternative-Natural-Remedy-for-Hiatal-Hernia

Topics: Health - Natural & Alternative Medicine - Home Remedies

Before we can explain the alternative natural remedies for a Hiatal Hernia, you must know what is a Hiatal Hernia. An Hiatal Hernia is an opening in the diaphragm that causes a protrusion of the upper part of the stomach into the esophagus. Acids leak back into the lower part of the esophagus, causing burning and inflammation (reflux).

Hub 21 - Cystitis: Bladder Infection

http://hubpages.com/hub/Cystitis-Bladder-Infection

Topics: Health - Natural & Alternative Medicine - Home Remedies

Cystitis or bladder infections are much more common in women than men due to their anatomy. In men, a bladder infection may be a sign of a more serious problem such as prostatitis.

Cystitis is a bacterial infection of the bladder characterized by the urgent desire to urinate. An overabundance of negative bacteria accumulates in the urine and causes dysfunction in the walls of the bladder. Symptoms include pain in the lower abdomen and back, frequent urgent and painful urination, blood or pus in the urine and fever.

Hub 22 - Make Money Ideas for Kids

http://hubpages.com/hub/Make-Money-Ideas-for-Kids

Topics: Business & Jobs - Customer Service

Kids are always thinking about ways to make money. Now with summer time right around the corner and the kids almost out of school, kids are really looking for ways to earn money for the summer.

Tore up my knee on Monday and haven't been able to do much at all. Have to sit with my leg elevated and keep ice on it. So after I get home from working all day I have to ice my knee. This is really putting me behind the eight-ball now! Not sure I am going to make it with the 30 hubs.

Hub 23 - How to Become a Game Show Contestant

http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Become-a-Game-Show-Contestant

Getting an audition as a game show contestant is easy. But the contestants who make onto a show, and go on to win, have special qualities. The edge these players have is that they know how to put their best face forward, and they know their game.

Hub 24 - Five Super Ways to Reduce Clutter

http://hubpages.com/hub/Five-Super-Ways-to-Reduce-Clutter

Topic: Knowledge & Education - Self-Education & Knowledge - Tips & Advice

Most of us could make life a lot less complicated by simply reducing the clutter we deal with daily in our homes and offices. But since reducing clutter often means letting go of things we've held onto for years, it can be easier said than done.

Hub 25 - Housing Alternatives for Aging Parents

http://hubpages.com/hub/Housing-Alternatives-for-Aging-Parents

Topics: Home & Family - Parenting - Aging Parents

Adult children often want their aging parents nearby so they can care for them. But forcing them to leave their home and community is unnecessary and unfair. Various services and housing programs now enable the elderly to remain safely and comfortably independent at home.

Today is May 1, 2010. I do not as of yet have my 30 hubs done. I still have 5 more to go. I am hoping to have this completed by this weekend. Since I did not start the 60 day challenge until April 3rd I am hoping that the next 5 hubs will count. Guess I will find out from someone.

Why did I not get this done. Here are my excuses:

  • Spring break week.
  • Joined a couple revenue sharing sites and lost time getting started in those places.
  • Finding topics to write about.
  • Trying to figure out how to use HubPages.
  • Hurt my knee this past week and had to keep my leg elevated and iced.
  • Had to work over time a couple of nights this week and did not get home until late.

My biggest problem as far as I can see is that I need to stay more focused on the task at hand. getting sidetracked on other sites that I should be focusing on in the next phase of this challenge.

Hub 26 - Will We Go Broke During Retirement?

http://hubpages.com/hub/Will-We-Go-Broke-During-Retirement

Topics: Personal Finance - Retirement - Planning

Our biggest fear during retirement is that we will run out of money. We have been putting money into a retirement savings plan for a long time , but with the unstable economy will we have enough to retire on for the next 20 or 30 years or longer?

Not just my husband and myself, but many baby boomers have seen their 401Ks hit hard the past ten years in our investment portfolio. Our real estate investments have been hit harder than anything. It is going to take at least another ten years for our previous real estate holdings to bounce back up to where they were.

Hub 27 - Flavorwave Turbo Oven

http://hubpages.com/hub/Flavorwave-Turbo-Oven

Topics: Food - Kitchen Equipment & Cookware

The Flavorwave Turbo Oven is one of the best cooking appliances I have at home. It is such a time saver when cooking a quick dinner after work. The Flavorwave Oven cooks food faster and better than my standard convection oven. I use the oven 2 to 3 times a week, depending on our dinner schedule. The Flavorwave Turbo Oven is self-cleaning and dishwasher-safe which is a huge plus when you are a full time working person.

Week 5 of the 60 Day Challenge

This is the 5th week of the 60 day challenge and the week that promoting starts to begin. Today is my last day for getting my remaining 3 hubs done. I should be able to complete my hubs hopefully barring any emergencies.

Hub 28 - Toddler Balance Bikes

http://hubpages.com/hub/Toddler-Balance-Bikes

Topics: Sports & Recreation - Sports - Cycling

Toddler balance bikes or run bikes was a term that I was unfamiliar with up until two years ago. But then my grandson came along and his cycling parents insisted he get a balance bike. Before my grandson could walk steadily he was off on his toddler balance bike. It was the strangest thing I had ever seen. Toddler bikes used to consist of three wheels or training wheels. Not any more I guess.

Hub 29 - Sidi Mountain Bike Shoes

http://hubpages.com/hub/Sidi-Mountain-Bike-Shoes

Topics: Sports & Recreation - Sports - Cycling

As any serious mountain biker knows cycling shoes are important. Sidi mountain biking shoes are specially designed for the rough terrain involved in mountain biking and keeping your feet on the pedals. The last thing you want to do is lose your footing and cause your bike to tumble. as much fun as mountain biking is falling off of your bike is not fun.

One more hub to go! Then I have completed this part of the 60 day challenge.

Hub 30 - Lemon Detox Diet and Colon Cleanse

http://hubpages.com/hub/Lemon-Detox-Diet-and-Colon-Cleanse

Topics: Health - Diet & Health - Weight Loss

The lemon detox diet and colon cleanse is an extreme form of rapid weight loss and not meant to be used as a weight loss diet. The lemon detox diet is more for detoxing the colon and getting the colon healthier to fight diseases. The lemon detox diet has become famous among many celebrities as the quick weight loss diet.

I DID IT! WOOHOO!!!!

I completed my 30 hubs in 30 days!!

Now on to more of what this 60 day challenge is all about. After having unexpected company drop by for dinner and activities I was afraid I would not complete this today. But I did.

Here are my stats after 30 days of the 60 day challenge.

Stats after 1 month of the 60 day challenge
Stats after 1 month of the 60 day challenge

Need to now go back and tweak all my hubs. I sort of left out inter-linking my hubs as I was stressing at the end just to get hubs up. Now this stuff is really getting confusing to me.

I have a lot of related hubs that I could link each to but they are not in the same category. Not sure if this makes a difference or not.

Got side tracked with family time. Little league with my grandkids started and I find now I am gone almost every evening. Geez!!! If it isn't one thing its another. I need to learn how to make money faster so I can retire and have time to make money and time for my family. This is getting overwhelming! (Just blowing off steam.)

Making Money Online at Home with Hubpages

It has been a couple of months now since the end of the 60dc and my attempt to making money online with Hubpages. I am very pleased to say that my hubs have leveled off nicely. I am getting a steady stream of traffic now on many of the hubs that I created for this challenge and aging seems to be helping a lot.

I am very pleased to report that my Adsense earnings are continually growing and that I have made money through the Amazon and eBay affiliate programs here on Hubpages as well. I have not done much to promote these hubs since the end of the 60dc but links pointing back to these hubs keep growing. I am far from earning a full time income from here on Hubpages, but I do believe that it is totally possible.

The team that worked this challenge was quite small and I believed that was the reason that this challenge was such a success. We were able to keep track of each other and add a great deal of support. I think if this had been a large group I would not have had as much time to help all involved. By keeping it small, we were able to be more supportive and attentive.

This is my current stat chart:

Hub Stats as of 7-27-2010

The stats may not look that attractive to many, but if you look at where they were when we started and after thirty days I think they have leveled off nicely. Also it does not appear to matter whether I get hundreds or thousands of visitors to my hubs or that my hub numbers are low, because the traffic I am getting is converting to sales and that is the whole point of this exercise.

Maybe due to beginners luck or something I was able to get the targeted traffic I was looking for.

It also appears that my traffic is coming from many sources other than Hubpages and even from the traffic from Hubpages I am getting conversions.

Converting traffic into dollars is what I am looking for to make money here on Hubpages.

Great start, Boomer - welcome aboard. Don't worry about the topics - I am flying by the seat of my pants and making them up as I go along.

If you haven't already, finding some good Keywords is a great start. Sunforged has a lot of great information about that, and Frogdropping has some excellent beginner's Hubs (I used those myself!)

Best of luck!

keep in mind this is first and foremost a personal challenge...you cant do anything wrong! But as a team we will help each other get the most out of the work we do.

In response to your question about your hub linking, since all the pages are under the same domain, just link back and forth anyway you please. If you were linking to a site that is off of hubpages, its best to keep the links one way

we have a new private forum - http://60dc.hubsacademy.com/

ask away if you have any problems.

Way to keep up on your publishing!

Good on you for taking on the challenge. I wish I had time for such a venture. Maybe I will later in the future once I get on top of other jobs.

I would like to add a little tip here for creating content though for people following such challenges in th future.

Create a mind map and use it as a way to follow a similar theme or niche!

Put the map up on the wall or board where you can reach to it and add to it as you go!

Believe me it works!

Marty

Below I have two Hubs for reference one is mine The other is from a fellow Hubber!

Thanks Marty for stopping by and I will definitely check out your mind maps suggestions. You must have noticed I get a little lost in my travels through niches. :-)

Hi Boomer60. Thanks for sharing your hub challenge process. I fell way behind, too, but feel that finishing was the point, since the purpose of the challenge is to inspire writers to get those hubs built and published, and attracting traffic.

Marty, I like your mind map idea. I think I'll use it.
