How to Remove Pet Urine

This page is going to discuss pet urine stain removal from carpeting and floors. I will explain how to remove pet urine using products most people already have in their homes. Even the best how trained dog or cat can have accidents in the house and making sure the pet stain is thoroughly cleaned to prevent pet odors should not be expensive or require the need for another special cleaning product to store under your sink.

The most important step in how to remove pet urine is to try and take care of the pet urine stain as quickly as possible. The longer you wait to clean up the stain the better chance it has to set into the backing of your carpeting or get deep into the cracks of a concrete floor or hard wood floor.

Remove Pet Urine From Carpet

When removing pet urine from the carpet I use my standby white vinegar. White vinegar not only removes the stain but it also neutralizes the urine odor that may have seeped into the carpet.

To remove the pet urine from the carpet I absorb as much liquid as possible by putting layers of paper towel over the spot and stepping on them until each stack of papers is soaked. Blot gently and never scrub. You want to keep repeating this process until the paper towels come up virtually dry.

Spray or sprinkle on a generous amount of vinegar. You can either use the vinegar straight or diluted with water. Now absorb the vinegar the same way as you did with the previous process. Keep blotting until the area is virtually dry.

If you need further cleaning, you can use a solution of liquid dishwashing detergent and water. Do the same procedure as before .

This treatment should remove the urine's odor so well that the animal will not return to the spot again based on the familiar smell.

Pet Urine Stain Removal on Concret Floors

On concrete floors as a pet urine stain remover, I use the white vinegar full strength. I just clean the area as good as I can with soapy water. Then wipe with the paper towels. After I have cleaned the area I pour the white vinegar on the pet urine stain and let it dry. After the area has dried thoroughly the odors will disappear.

If all else fails then I go back to my portable Shark Steam Cleaner  and proceed to clean the surface as directed above. I do not use any more vinegar on the urine stain. I will take my portable handheld steam cleaner and suck up the excess moisture to ensure that there is no residue of urine left behind.
