With the right information you can make a better informed choice when buying a new energy efficient space heater.These are all electric convection space heaters. some have built in fans and some do not.

Honeywell HZ-817 Low Profile 2-in-1 Baseboard Heater with Quick Heat™ and Convection Heating is only given a 4 star rating due to a review given on Amazon. This review is questionable according to the comments but all in all I still must rate this as the people see it.

The Honeywell HZ-817 is the top rated electric convection space heater according to Consumer Reports.

The HZ-817 gets excellent ratings for noise and for its temperature control. It has very good rating for ease of use and safety ( this indicates the fire hazard on this unit is unlikely).

The Honeywell HZ-817 gets the EnergySmart rating which means that it saves up to 35% on your energy bill.

As this is a 1500 watts unit, it is great for heating a small to medium size room. Larger rooms would require a bigger unit or two units.

This unit has no fan.

The Soleus Air HM2-15R-32 Flat Panel Micathermic Heater with Remote is rated average according to Consumers Report and has had some fairly good ratings on Amazon.com. After reading the negative reviews on Amazon I realized that the reviews had nothing to do with this model of Soleus Air.

For the price this Soleusair HM2-15R-32 seems like a good buy. This unit however is not recommended for a bathroom. Moisture and water will damage the unit. It seems fit, however in most midsized rooms. The only real complaint is the beeping sound that comes from the tempurature control that seems to annoy most people.

This unit has no fan.

DeLonghi MG7307CM Oil-Filled Portable Radiator with ComforTemp Technology is the last to be reviewed in our no-fan electric convection space heaters. Like the others in this section with no fan, this heater has been given good reviews on Consumer Reports and Amazon. I could not find any approvals as far as energy efficient space heater reports. I did find that this heater did have an unfavorable mark against it as far as its usability. Between the ease of use and lack of energy saving I gave this a 3 star rating.

Remember when deciding on whether to buy a no fan heater, that these heaters do take longer to heat up a room as there is no fan to circulate the heat. They do quite a job if you have them in a room that already has circulating  air such as a ceiling fan.

• Always read and follow the manufacturers manual instructions and warning labels.
• Never leave the electric heater unattended for any length of time.
• DO NOT use your heater with a power strip or extension cord.
• Power cords should always go on top of area rugs or carpeting. Never place furniture on top of cords.
• Keep combustible materials at least three feet from the front of the heater and away from the sides and rear.
• Keep all flammable materials away from the heater.
• Do not use in damp or wet areas, such as bathrooms, unless specifically designed for such areas.
• Periodically check the plug and outlet to ensure a snug fit. If you feel a hot plug you may need to replace the outlet.
• Unplug heater when not in use. And check cord for any damage. Do not use a heater with a damaged cord.
• Never have more than the portable space heater plugged into the outlet. This could cause the heater to become over heated.
• Keep children away from heaters and never use a heater in a child's room unattended.

• Always place your space heater on a level flat surface. Space heaters should not be placed on table tops unless designed for a table top.

Following these safety tips for operating an electrical space heater could prevent any fires do to owners mishandling.

The Vornado Vortex Heat TouchStone 500 EH1-0032-28 is from the same manufactorure that sells the original Vortex fans. This fan-forced space heater was rated the highest by Consumer Reports, but after reading several actual consumer reviews I don't think that these are worth the high price that they are commanding.

The Vortex convection space heater has a remote that seems to be on the same frequency as your TV and when you raise and lower the volume on the TV the thermostat on the space heater also turns up and down.

There is a digital light on the very top of the unit that tends to be very bright. This digital light has been compared to the light of a night light and for some using this unit in there bedroom the light was very annoying.

Also some reported that they were having issues with the unit not working after a year. Luckily they come with a two year warranty and are replaced free with a new unit. Most people were very pleased with the support and service that was given to them. They were given very high praises for this service. However being without their room space heater was an inconvenience.

The EdenPURE Gen 3 Infrared Quartz Heater is an extremely nice heater. From all the indications I can find this is probably the electric space heater that is lest likely to have mechanical issues. The EdenPURE is also one the the most expensive models of convection space heaters that I reviewed.

My 3 star rating is reflective of the cost of the EdenPURE Gen3 infrared heater. At around $300, you would definitely need to witness a big savings on your heating bill. Even though this is a portable space heater it only heats one room at a time. For a room space heater I find it hard to justify the cost when other space heaters do the job for under $100.

I have friends that have this space heater and swear by them. They have noticed a dramatic savings on their winter heating bill. But we have also had a milder than normal winter and our winter heating bill went down as well.

I would advise anyone looking to purchase one of these EdenPURE space heaters to ask around first and get other peoples opinions.

These electric convection space heater here are not like a commercial space heater. These are all just a room portable space heater. Many are designed to only take the chill out of a small to medium size room and keep you comfortable. If you are expecting major heat from any of these units you will be very dissatisfied no matter which model you choose. And most importantly, the fan space heaters will cost more to operate that tne non-fan heaters.
